People Operations Manager

Parity’s mission is to provide open source infrastructure to build a better future internet, aka Web 3.0. Blockchains are a key component in this future Web 3 stack and Parity is a leader in the blockchain space. It is the creator of two ambitious new blockchain projects, Polkadot and Substrate, that makes it easier to experiment and innovate with new ideas for sharding, encryption and governance. Parity is creating an open source creative commons that will enable people to create better institutions through a new wave of peer-2-peer technologies.

Parity envisions the future of the Web as decentralised and secure, giving users more autonomy so that they can verify the systems that they are increasingly relying on, instead of trusting the current services’ providers. Parity is an international team composed of more than 180 members from over 30 countries, with offices in Germany, the UK and Portugal.

THE ROLE AND TEAM

We are seeking a dedicated and well-organised People Operations Manager to handle all things People Operations for Parity’s Portuguese entity, which was established in 2022 and has 8 employees so far. This role is for you if you are passionate about smooth processes and providing a great employee experience, and have gathered hands-on experience with running Portuguese People Operations autonomously. You will need to successfully liaise with external partners and government institutions and have a solid working knowledge of Portuguese Labor Law.

This role is part of Parity’s global People Operations team consisting of People Ops Managers and People Ops Administrators. Since the Portuguese Entity is still small, you will also be supporting your People Ops colleagues at Parity’s other locations. Within the wider People team we work closely with the Recruiting team as well as the different departments’ People Partners.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Own core People Operations tasks for our Portuguese entity, such as onboarding and offboarding, document and contract creation, employee data management, benefits administration
• Manage relocation support and liaise with our external relocation partners to provide visa support
• Monitor changes in regulations and local best practices in order to review and update Parity’s People policies
• Work with our external payroll provider and the Finance team to ensure reliable and timely payroll processing. This includes preparing data from our HRIS for the payroll provider and working on automating this process.
• Act as the main contact person for our employees in Portugal. Understand employee sentiment at our Portuguese entity, escalating issues and enabling the teams for success
• Collaborate with Parity’s Operations team on health & safety topics
• Manage employment law matters in collaboration with Parity’s Legal team
• Communicate with external consultants, government offices, and service providers about matters of employment law, social security, and benefits
• Support core People Operations areas for our other entities (UK & Germany) as needed, acting as a backup for our other local experts
• Help guide, support and mentor junior members of the People Ops team
• Recommend and execute on process improvements and identify areas where we can automate tasks
• Initiate and deliver on exciting new People Operations projects together with the international People Operations team
• Continuously develop your skills, making use of the dedicated personal development budget as well as team-internal resources.

THIS JOB IS FOR YOU IF YOU…

• Have 2-4 years of experience in the field of People Operations / HR
• Show great attention to detail
• Are a real self-starter who has hands-on experience with running People Operations autonomously
• Have a solid working knowledge of Portuguese labour law
• Have the ability to work independently and proactively while contributing to a consistent global employee experience
• Are a great team player and possess very strong communications skills
• Successfully liaise with external partners, such as consultants, payroll providers, and government institutions
• Are keen to complete relevant certifications and trainings in the field of HR during your time at Parity, or already hold such certifications or a degree
• Speak both English and Portuguese fluently
• Are comfortable working with Admin tools / HR systems
